Bisasar Road Landfill

South Africa’s first successful landfill-gas-to-electricity CDM project, and the birthplace of Renew’s horizontal well technique.

Landfill gasCDM

The project

Bisasar Road is one of the largest landfills in Africa and became South Africa’s first successful landfill-gas-to-electricity CDM project. Renew supplied the 2,000 Nm³/h HOFGAS LPM flare, twin 2,500 Nm³/h extraction blowers and the CDM measuring and data-logging equipment.

It is also where Renew pioneered horizontal gas wells in South Africa, an approach that lowers capital cost and starts extracting gas from a cell long before conventional vertical wells could be drilled.
