Beatrix Gold Mine

Six Hofstetter flares destroying underground methane at a listed CDM mine-gas project.

Mine gasCDM

The project

Methane released from the workings at Beatrix is both a safety hazard and a potent greenhouse gas. Gold Fields registered a CDM project to capture and destroy it, and Renew supplied the flaring equipment.

Three HOFGAS IFL1c units handle the smaller boreholes and three HOFGAS CFM4c flares take the main flows, up to 1,450 Nm³/h from a single unit. Every flare is instrumented so the destroyed methane earns Certified Emission Reductions while making the mine safer.
