Gas cooling and moisture removal

Aprovis FriCon gas chillers that drop biogas and landfill gas below dew point, preventing condensate in pipelines, protecting engines and stripping soluble contaminants.

Overview

Removing moisture before delivery to gas engines or sensitive equipment is vital to the running of your plant and reduces downtime for maintenance. Renew supplies Aprovis FriCon gas chillers that dehumidify the gas by dropping its temperature below dew point.

What chilling does for you

  • Condensate prevention. Water vapour is knocked out in the chiller, so condensate does not build up in the downstream pipeline, block low points or slug into the engine.
  • Contaminant removal. Some gas contaminants, especially ammonia and sulphur compounds, are soluble in water and are partly removed with the condensate.
  • Optimised combustion. Less moisture reaches the end-use equipment, so engines and boilers burn cleaner and more efficiently.
  • Long pipelines made possible. With the dew point controlled, gas can be boosted and piped for a kilometre or more, as at SAB Prospecton.

FriCon units are supplied as complete skids with heat exchanger, refrigeration circuit, condensate separator and controls, and are routinely combined with Renew’s boosting blowers in a single package.
