Biogas technology

Custom engineered systems for combustible gas.

Gas flaring, membrane gas storage, conditioning, upgrading, moisture removal and delivery of combustible gases to the point of use, all engineered to survive the harsh African climate and to satisfy CDM emission standards.

Technology

Six building blocks. One accountable supplier.

Choose the pieces you need or let Renew engineer the complete chain from the gas source to the burner tip.

  • Twin Hofstetter flare stacks against the sky

    Gas flaring

High, medium and emergency-temperature flares for landfill, digester, mine, industrial and special gases with combustion efficiency above 99.99%.

    DestructionDetails
  • Double-membrane gas holder being installed at Welgedacht

    Membrane gas storage

Agrotel CenoTec double-membrane gas holders, retrofitted onto digesters or free-standing, permanently gas-tight and maintenance free.

    BufferingDetails
  • Gas conditioning pipework inside a containerised plant

    Gas conditioning

Activated carbon and biological desulphurisation to remove hydrogen sulphide, ammonia and silicone compounds.

    CleaningDetails
  • FriCon gas chiller and blower skid at SAB Prospecton

    Gas cooling

Aprovis FriCon chillers that drop gas below dew point, protecting engines and pipelines and stripping soluble contaminants.

    DryingDetails
  • Biogas plant with membrane roofs and buffer storage at Harmony Steyn 1

    Gas upgrading

Membrane separation and water absorption upgrading to around 97% methane for vehicle fuel, grid injection and chemical feedstock.

    BiomethaneDetails
  • Lipp double-fold steel tank with membrane roof

    Lipp steel tanks

Patented double-fold steel tanks for digesters, wastewater, liquids, bulk material and drinking water, erected by a crew of three.

Applications

Every gas has its own chemistry. We know them all.

Landfill gas is wet, dirty and variable. Digester gas is rich but sour. Mine gas comes and goes with the working face. Each demands its own extraction, cleaning and combustion strategy.

Landfill gas

  • Horizontal and vertical well fields
  • Condensate and leachate management
  • High-temperature CDM flaring
  • Gas-to-electricity engine feed

Digester & sewage gas

  • Membrane roofs and gas holders
  • Biological and carbon desulphurisation
  • Chilling and boosting to boilers
  • Upgrading to biomethane

Mine gas

  • Borehole methane capture
  • Mobile and fixed flare units
  • CDM measurement and CERs
  • Underground safety improvement

Industrial & special gas

  • Emergency and standby flares
  • Wood gas and process off-gas
  • Custom skids and containers
  • Continuous gas analysis

Services

The knowledge that makes the hardware pay.

Understanding gas principles and safety, and keeping the whole project in view, is what separates a plant that runs from one that merely exists.

  • Gas field management

Operating, tuning and optimising landfill, sewage, mine and digester gas fields. Horizontal wells, pipe falls, condensate and pressure loss handled by people who have done it for thirty years.

  • Gas analysis

Detailed composition surveys of landfill gas and biogas so that cleaning, chilling and upgrading are specified against real data.

  • Monitoring & CDM compliance

Monitoring systems built to your Project Design Document, SCADA implementation, plant performance reviews and monthly emission-reduction calculations.
