About Renew
Engineers first. Pilots of the flame.
Renew Technologies offers expertise and quality technology to the biogas and solar energy sectors. We design for the harsh African climate and for the emission standards the world now demands, including Kyoto Protocol and Clean Development Mechanism compliance.
What we do
Gas-to-energy technology, solar and temperature measurement.
Renew works with landfill gas, biogas, sewage gas and special gases wherever they are produced: municipal landfills, wastewater treatment works, breweries, farms and mines. We supply the equipment that extracts, conditions, cools, stores, upgrades and finally uses or destroys that gas, and we back it with the analysis, management and compliance services that make a project bankable.
Our solar division delivers complete engineered and installed rooftop and small-scale embedded generation with battery backup. Our temperature measurement division manufactures thermocouples locally for every industry where temperature is a critical parameter.
CDM-ready equipment leaves our workshop with the instrument certification required for Certified Emission Reduction verification, so the carbon value of a project is never left on the table.

How we work
Built for heat, dust and distance.
Equipment that works in a European winter does not automatically work on a Free State mine or a Cape Town landfill in a south-easter. We specify, adapt and support for local reality.
Compliance by design
Every CDM plant ships with certified instrumentation, data logging and the documentation your verifier will ask for.
Engineered, not assembled
We size blowers, chillers and flares for your gas, your climate and your pipeline, then test before we ship.
Whole-project view
Gas principles, safety and the overall picture from the well head to the point of use, not just a single box.
Supported for life
Remote monitoring, plant performance reviews and honest advice for as long as the plant runs.
Track record
Nearly two decades of firsts.
Renew has been part of the South African gas-to-energy story from its very first CDM project, and our landfill team brings more than three decades of extraction and leachate experience to every site.
- 2008
Bisasar Road, Durban
South Africa’s first successful landfill-gas-to-electricity CDM project, with Renew flaring and extraction equipment and pioneering horizontal gas wells.
- 2009 – 2011
Mine gas flaring
Mobile flares at New Denmark Colliery and six Hofstetter flares at Beatrix Gold Mine bring CDM methane destruction underground.
- 2014 – 2016
Cooling and boosting
Aprovis FriCon chillers at Simmer & Jack and SAB Prospecton prove dry, boosted gas over long pipelines.
- 2015 – 2017
Membrane storage
Sattler double-membrane holders at Welgedacht and a full digester gas train at Harmony Steyn 1.
- 2018 – 2025
Containerised CDM plants
Coastal Park, Bellville South, Vissershok and Stellenbosch: factory-built MGP plants for the Western Cape.
- 2023 – today
Solar fleet
Residential, commercial and agricultural PV with battery storage across KwaZulu-Natal, all remotely monitored.
